So you’re trying to organise a fun and classy hen weekend without spending all day just drinking, giving offence or boring anyone? Many find this a challenge with so many different guest ages and backgrounds!

One piece of advice we’d give is to pick a memorable and fun activity for your hen party that everyone can participate in. The good news is once you engage your imagination there are plenty of fun, lively things to do which will help break the ice, keep everyone entertained and be a lovely way to celebrate the upcoming marriage.
We’ve hosted many hen groups over the years and have listened to what enthused these hens the most. Here are some of their top picks for the most fun, interesting and even outlandish things to do with your hen party. There’s a variety of ideas from cute to crafty… and for more adventurous hens they include one or two that are just plain wild! Best of all – all these activities are available only a short distance away if you’re staying at Cottages Near Bath!
- Meet some Capybaras. Yes that’s right your hen group could go cuteness overload by spending time with one of the world’s most loveable rodents. It’s an activity that everyone will love and remember. www.chewvalley-animalpark.co.uk
- Visit a rooftop natural volcanic spa. Thermae Bath Spa has a gorgeous location in the centre of the City of Bath with its own rooftop pool. Uses Bath’s world famous natural thermal spring that has been used for thousands of years, most famously by the Romans and Jane Austen. The water is famously good for your health… and even better for your hens!

- Go on a Viking walk. Yes, get ready to take to the hills shield maidens! If you walk from Bratton village to the world famous Westbury White Horse, you’ll be at the site of King Alfred the Great’s victory over the Vikings at the Battle of Ethandun. We love the stunning views over Wiltshire and the sense of history is amazing. Even better – it’s completely free!

- Try Paddle Boarding. For those who want something sporty, there’s plenty of fun in paddling up and down a river! Contact Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team or Bath Paddleboard Centre.
- Jewellery making. Why buy when you can make!? We’ve had hens make gorgeous necklaces and beautiful earrings. It’s easy to do and the results can be stunning. Ask us for potential course leaders.

- Wild swimming. The wildest of hens have told us they took on the rawest of sports: Wild Swimming! We cannot possibly recommend what we’ve heard is an extreme activity that refreshes and challenges – especially in cooler weather! There are various reputed local swimming spots but we leave you to do your own research – and take medical advice! Farleigh Hungerford, Frome and Warleigh Weir, Claverton are often mentioned.
We reckon that when you get together, so long as you have the right accommodation and group you’ll all have a lovely time. We invite you to take a look at our large holiday rental properties near Bath to see if they might fit your group’s needs!
